Kappa value - quality
Construction Quality Planning Guide, Draft for Consultation, Published by the Construction Innovation Hub in May 2020, suggests that Kappa Value: ‘…are an output of one of the tools used within the CQP (Construction Quality Plan), called MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis). Kappa values can be determined for any measurement system the results of which are not numeric but binary i.e. ‘good or bad’/’pass or fail’. These are measurement systems that may be heavily dependent on operator input and may carry a high degree subjectivity and reproducibility error for example: checking a wall colour is correct to the specification of a client through only visual means. Kappa values are compared against predefined thresholds, to determine whether the quality of the data output from different operators within the supply chain is satisfactory.
